At OnSite Rentals, we make dumpster rental simple and stress-free. A little preparation ensures that your roll-off is delivered and placed exactly where you need it, so your cleanup or construction project runs smoothly. Based in Powdersville, we’ve delivered hundreds of dumpsters across Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Mauldin, and surrounding Upstate South Carolina communities. Here’s our guide to preparing your property for a quick, efficient, and worry-free delivery.
Choosing the Right Size
Before preparing your space, it’s important to know what size dumpster fits your needs. At OnSite Rentals, we offer two popular roll-off options:
20-Yard Roll-Off Dumpster
-
Weight Allowance: 3 tons
-
Dimensions: 22′ L x 8′ W x 54” tall
-
Capacity: About 11 pickup truck loads of debris
-
Best for: Home renovations, garage cleanouts, small remodeling projects, and roofing jobs
30-Yard Roll-Off Dumpster
-
Weight Allowance: 4 tons
-
Dimensions: 22′ L x 8′ W x 72” tall
-
Capacity: About 16 pickup truck loads of debris
-
Best for: Large construction projects, major cleanouts, multi-room remodels, or commercial use
Once you’ve chosen the right size, you’ll want to ensure you have the right space prepared for delivery.
Plan the Perfect Placement
The most common location is a driveway since it’s flat, stable, and easy for our trucks to access. For construction sites, a level, open space works best. Businesses often reserve part of a parking lot.
When picking your spot, think about:
-
Proximity to the Project: Closer is better to reduce hauling debris long distances
-
Surface Stability: Asphalt or concrete holds weight better than soft ground
-
Overhead Clearance: Keep clear of tree branches, wires, or roof overhangs
-
Neighbor Considerations: Make sure you’re not crossing property lines
Measure and Prepare Your Space
Both dumpster sizes require 22 feet in length and 8 feet in width, with at least 20 feet of vertical clearance for our trucks to lift and lower the container.
Allow for 3 feet of clearance around the dumpster to make room for safe delivery and pickup. If you’re working with a smaller driveway, be sure to check the fit ahead of time to avoid surprises on delivery day.
Protecting Your Driveway
To prevent surface damage, we recommend placing plywood sheets (¾-inch) or 2×12 boards under the dumpster. Sweeping away gravel or loose debris also helps create a stable base.
Avoiding Lawn Damage
We don’t recommend lawn placement if it can be avoided, but if necessary, clear the area of furniture, toys, and equipment. Wet or soggy ground can cause a dumpster to sink, so dry, firm soil is best.
Check Local Regulations
Some neighborhoods in Upstate South Carolina, especially HOAs, require prior approval before placing a dumpster. If you’re planning to position it on the street, you may also need a city or county permit. Time limits for dumpster rentals vary, so check local rules before scheduling. Our team can help guide you if you’re unsure.
Clear the Access Path
Our trucks need a safe, open route to your property. Please:
-
Move cars from the driveway and street in front of your home or business
-
Trim low branches and remove overhanging obstacles
-
Make sure gates provide at least 10 feet of clearance
-
Keep pets inside during delivery
-
Remove items like garbage bins, basketball hoops, or equipment that could block access
Communication for Smooth Delivery
The more we know ahead of time, the smoother your delivery will be. Mark your preferred placement spot with cones, stakes, or chalk, and be available by phone during your delivery window. If you can be on-site, that’s even better—it allows you to direct the exact placement of your dumpster.
